Datwyler (Middletown, DE) announced an expansion to its NeoFlex™ range of fully coated plungers with a solution for large-volume cartridges containing 20mL at Pharmapack (Paris, France, January 27-28, 2026). The NeoFlex™ plunger for cartridges containing up to 20mL volumes enables slow, controlled drug delivery and supports a wider range of self-administration devices.
Subcutaneous (SC) delivery enables at-home administration, supporting patient comfort and convenience. However, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers face key challenges in outfitting therapies for large-volume SC delivery. High-dose and high-volume biologics remain difficult due to limitations in formulation concentration; there is is limited availability of standardized large-volume, device-compatible components, and there is a need for off-the-shelf delivery solutions reducing development complexity, cost, and time.
· NeoFlex™ plungers are covered in a non-fluorosurfactant grade fluoropolymer coating that ensures a contact safe surface compatible with the formulation and prohibiting exposure to extractables, leachables, and other contaminants. Datwyler's new plunger is compatible with all 20mL ISO cartridges currently on the market.
"We believe in innovating patient care through open collaboration,” said Paolo Ferrigno, Product Manager, PFS & Cartridges, Datwyler. “So, we are proud to deliver the first-to-market universal, fully coated plunger in this size, helping our peers across pharmaceutical and medical device companies continue to improve the patient experience in receiving high-dose therapies.”
