CEO, Cellular Origins
Edwin is CEO of Cellular Origins, where he is tackling one of the central barriers to wider cell and gene therapy adoption: scalable manufacturing. The company is developing robotic automation platforms designed to move the sector beyond manual, operator-dependent processes and toward more reliable, closed, and industrialized production.
Under Edwin’s leadership, Cellular Origins has built momentum through partnerships with major technology and bioprocessing suppliers including Cytiva, Fresenius Kabi, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, as well as a collaborative and investment partnership with Johnson & Johnson. The company has also joined forces with partners including the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult to develop a fully automated, scalable cell therapy manufacturing platform. With recent funding of $40 million, Cellular Origins is expanding its facilities in the UK and US while working to increase adoption of robotics in advanced therapy manufacturing.
“If we want these therapies to reach tens of thousands of patients per year, we need manufacturing models that are designed for industrial scale. The goal is not to reinvent the biology, but to connect proven technologies into a connected, scalable system that will deliver efficient, consistent, continuous production.”
