Head of Advanced Therapies, TTP
Stuart leads the Advanced Therapies group at TTP, where he works with therapy developers to design manufacturing technologies for complex cell and gene therapies. His work spans biology, engineering, automation, and product development, helping companies move from bespoke early processes toward scalable manufacturing approaches that can support clinical development and, ultimately, patient access.
As automation advances across the sector, Stuart’s focus is on the next generation of more challenging therapies that cannot simply be slotted into standard platforms. For these complex products, manufacturing may require tailored processes, novel automation, and careful integration of quality, facility design, and operational efficiency from the outset. By applying TTP’s engineering and product development expertise to advanced therapies, Stuart is helping address one of the field’s most persistent bottlenecks: making innovative therapies manufacturable at the scale and quality required for real-world use.
“My biggest professional highlight of the past 12 months was receiving the results of a pilot study run by one of our clients on a piece of purpose-built manufacturing equipment that the TTP Advanced Therapies team had delivered. This equipment was designed to allow for the closure and automation of a manual manufacturing process, and hence the manufacture of multiple personalized patent batches within the same GMP environment – something that had not been demonstrated before with this therapeutic modality. The results demonstrated that the pilot system was capable of producing material with equivalent specifications to the manual process, and hence generates confidence that the manufacturing approach could be pursued all the way through to commercialization.”
