Welcome to Day 2 of CPHI North America!

In my experience, day 2 of any trade fair is often the busiest, so I hope you’ve had a coffee along with your Philly cheesesteak hoagie or soft pretzel breakfast – it’s time to get back in there and see what awaits in the areas of excipients, supply chain economics, and the achievement of excellence in pharma manufacturing.

If you're spoilt for choice (and getting a good early start), you’ll find below my choice of speakers, but if you’re not and you know exactly where you’re heading today (and for what reason), let me know your preferences: [email protected].

Today's Must-See

08:30 - 09:45: Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs): Navigating Four Pillars of Safety, Development, Supply Chain and Manufacturing Excellence (Room 201A)

Global Vice President of AR&D Operations at Veranova Kishore Hotha discusses the commercial readiness acceleration and supply chain strategies, the significance of CDMO partnerships, and the challenges of ADC production.

11:40 - 12:30: Panel: Reshoring US Pharma: The Realities (Conference Theater 1)

A host of experts discuss the state of US-based pharmaceutical manufacturing by factoring in the key drivers, challenges, and outcomes of the onshoring/reshoring trends. The speakers will also address the successes and challenges in achieving their own onshoring targets, the impact of regulatory changes as a result, and whether “nearshoring” is another viable option.

14:10 - 14:30: Revolutionizing Pharmaceutical Formulations: Harnessing Excipient Solutions for Next-Generation Medicines (Conference Theater 1)

My final choice for the day; speakers will explore how excipients have evolved from passive additives to active contributors to efficacy and functionality, and how they have become essential in precision medicine. Innovations in excipient development are also delivering better patient compliance and outcomes through taste-masking and novel dosage forms.

Tomorrow's Planner

Looking forward to day 3? Your CPHI NA visit will conclude with the discussion of what wellbeing and diversity look like in the pharma industry before a masterclass in managing regulatory challenges.

Thought of the Day

“It is not enough to agree with a supplier on the specification and basic quality of an excipient, and to receive and test that excipient before use. You must understand the supply chain. Who is involved? Who is handling the product and storing the product? What about repacking? You must understand all of this so that you can manage the risk.”

Frank Milek, former President, IPEC. Read more here

Aprés-Sci

You’re right in the heart of the City of Brotherly Love, flanked by the Delaware River to the east and the Shuylkill to the west. I’d be tempted to head east on Arch Street to take a look in the African American Museum of Philadelphia (on the corner of Arch and North 7th) before continuing to Cherry Street Pier on the banks of the Delaware (and the border of New Jersey) for the range of artisan street foods. Bon appetit!
