The Power List 2020 – Small Molecules

Chief Executive Officer at Nanoform

In 2015 Edward Haeggström commercialized the nanoparticle engineering platform he developed with Jouko Yliruusi, Acting Professor at the University of Helsinki, with the launch of Nanoform. The company offers API particle-size reduction services and won the CPhI Award for Formulation in 2019. Haeggström is also a professor at Helsinki University and Head of the Electronics Research Laboratory within the Department of Physics.

Which people have inspired you?

I have always been inspired by Frederick Sanger and John Bardeen. They are the only people who have won a Nobel Prize in the same category twice - Frederick Sanger for Chemistry and John Bardeen for Physics.

What is the next big thing for the small molecule field?

Naturally I would say that nanoparticle engineering has outstanding potential for enhancing the small molecule field! The latest nanoparticle engineering technologies will permit the development of small molecule drugs with enhanced properties, and open up new avenues for treating currently incurable diseases.
