Power to You!
2019 Power List nominations close in just one month. Who’s in the running? Well, that’s up to you…
The Power List is our chance to put the pharmaceutical and drug development industry’s inspirational thought leaders, opinion shapers and unsung heroes in the spotlight. It also gives us a fantastic opportunity to ask the very best of our industry about their drives, inspirations, what they wished they’d known when they started out, and what changes they’d like to see in their field. Below, you will find a selection of quotes from last year’s list.
What new themes will emerge this year? To ensure that the breadth of perspectives is as wide as possible, we are relying on you, the readers, to nominate the individuals that you would like to see on the list. Based on the nominations received, our panel of expert judges will then decide who most deserves a place in the top 100 – and categorize them as masters of the bench, industry influencers, business captains or champions of change.
To nominate, please complete the online form here.
Wise words from our 2018 Power Listers:
“There currently exists an ugly and unethical divide between the billion who have health security in the developed world and the nearly seven billion others who are vulnerable to disease and death because of little or no access to health protection.” – Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson and Managing Director, Biocon
“I wish I had known the importance of networking within our industry earlier on. So much of what I have learned is from colleagues, and I wish I had recognized and cultivated this earlier.” – Richard Johnson, Chief Executive Officer and President, Parenteral Drug Association
“Partnership is so important – we need to be able to work across disciplines, sectors and borders in order to make a difference. I would like to see better alignment between the opportunities in science and technology today with unmet medical care and public health needs.” – Margaret Hamburg President, AAAS, Foreign secretary of National Academy of Medicine
“I’m leading the development of a code of ethics for the industry. I wholly believe that we have to do the right things, and do them transparently, and with full input from other stakeholders.” – Mike Rea, Chief Executive Officer, IDEA Pharma
“I would love to see a robust and large-scale trial of open source drug development as a competing model for the pharmaceutical industry, funded through a mixed investment model of public, private and philanthropic support.” – Matthew Todd, Associate Professor, University of Sydney; Founder, Open Source Malaria
Over the course of my Biomedical Sciences degree it dawned on me that my goal of becoming a scientist didn’t quite mesh with my lack of affinity for lab work. Thinking on my decision to pursue biology rather than English at age 15 – despite an aptitude for the latter – I realized that science writing was a way to combine what I loved with what I was good at.
From there I set out to gather as much freelancing experience as I could, spending 2 years developing scientific content for International Innovation, before completing an MSc in Science Communication. After gaining invaluable experience in supporting the communications efforts of CERN and IN-PART, I joined Texere – where I am focused on producing consistently engaging, cutting-edge and innovative content for our specialist audiences around the world.
