Before Pherin, Louis held various professorial positions at the University of Utah and the University of Uruguay. He holds an M.D. degree from the School of Medicine, University of the Republic, Uruguay, and a Ph.D. degree from the School of Medicine, University of Utah. He has published over 100 scientific articles and holds several patents.
