2021 in Review: Our Best Videos

The editors of The Medicine Maker aren’t just writers. We’re Zoom pros too! Put your feet up and bask in some of the content we have created over the past year. Here are our top five editorial videos, featuring our very favourite experts and interviewees.

1. Interview with Sharon Brownlow of the UK Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult

Cell and gene therapy can revolutionize medicine, but first it needs infrastructure. In the UK, that’s exactly what the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult is working to create. In parts one and two of this in-depth interview, the Catapult’s Chief Business Officer Sharon Brownlow spoke to us about the pivotal role she played in securing collaborative research funding with partners, and supporting the growth and productivity of the field.

2. Interview with Joe Healey, CEO and Co-Founder of NanoSyrinx

NanoSyrinx is a discovery-stage synthetic biology biotech developing a novel delivery modality for complex biologics. In Part 1 of this interview we spoke to its founder, Joe, about his career and the story behind this exciting young company. In Part 2, Joe discusses the major trends in the cell and gene therapy space, the ins and outs of investment, and what the future holds.

3. Editor Stephanie Sutton interviews Mike Rea of IDEA Pharma

Mike Rea is a man with opinions. In his chat with Stephanie, our fearless lead editor, Mike breaks down why the conventional wisdom behind drug launches and positioning is completely back to front. It is time to cast out the oracles. Watch, and you will understand. (Alternatively, you can read this interview in Q&A form HERE.)

4. Our 2020 Power Listers on COVID-19, Leadership, and the Future of Pharma

Our 2020 Power List set the bar high – so high that picking the champions of our 2022 list will prove no mean feat. For this video, we rallied four pharma thought leaders for a back and forth on the pandemic and what it means for the future of the industry. Note that we uploaded this conversation back in January 2021 – so consider this video a portal back in time to an earlier stage in the evolution of the pandemic!

5. Vaccine Experts on Pandemic Preparedness and Learning from the Past

Speaking of journeys back in time, we admit we are cheating slightly here. This digital roundtable featuring Adrian Wildfire, Rebecca Cox, Marco Cavaleri, Daniel Hoft, and Pieter Neels went up to our channel in December 2020, but the insights were so rich that we simply had to include it in this list.

About the Author
Angus Stewart

Associate Editor of The Medicine Maker

Between studying for my English undergrad and Publishing master's degrees I was out in Shanghai, teaching, learning, and getting extremely lost. Now I'm expanding my mind down a rather different rabbit hole: the pharmaceutical industry. Outside of this job I read mountains of fiction and philosophy, and I must say, it's very hard to tell who's sharper: the literati, or the medicine makers.
